Japan’s Tourism Enters a New Era
As major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto once again grapple with overtourism, regional cities facing population decline are utilizing various marketing tools to attract more visitors. The era of simply seeking the highest number of tourists is shifting toward a new phase—one where information is delivered to the right audience, inviting those who truly appreciate the destination.
Maniwa City in Okayama Prefecture, a region with a deep-rooted relationship with nature fostered through centuries of dialogue with its forests, stands as a testament to Japan’s status as one of the world’s leading forest nations. By learning from the harmonious coexistence of people and nature in Maniwa, we can explore the future of sustainable tourism.

The Japan World’s Tourism Film Festival (JWTFF) helps showcase tourism films that highlight the unique appeal of different regions, sharing them with audiences worldwide. From reflecting on the essence of travel in human history to embracing the latest in digital marketing and VR technology, the festival serves as a platform for passionate discussions on the future of tourism storytelling.
The festival hosts a tourism film competition, discovering, evaluating, and awarding outstanding works that capture the charm of Japan’s regions before introducing them to a global audience.
The 7th Japan World’s Tourism Film Festival will be held from March 17 to 19, 2025, at the former Senkyō Elementary School in Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture.
日本の観光は新しい時代へ。東京や大阪、京都といった大都市が再びオーバーツーリズムと向き合うようになった一方で、人口減少問題に向き合う地方都市はさまざまなマーケティングツールを活用してより多くの観光客を求めています。できるだけ多くの観光客を求める時代から、地域に来て欲しい人に情報を届けて、その方たちに来てもらうための観光映像の時代へ。世界有数の森林大国である日本の、長年にわたる森との対話で培われた風土を持つ岡山県真庭市。ここに息づく自然との関係から学び、これからの観光のあり方を考えます。

日本国際観光映像祭は地域の魅力を伝える観光映像を広く世界に届けるお手伝いをします。人類にとって旅とは何なのか、から、デジタルマーケティングやVR映像まで。熱く語り合う映像祭を開催します。映像祭では日本の地域の魅力を含んだ映像を見出し、評価して表彰し、世界に届けるための観光映像コンテストを開催します。
第7回日本国際観光映像祭は、2025年3月17日から19日に、岡山県真庭市 旧遷喬尋常小学校を会場に開催します。
